Emma Robertson

Emma is a proud palawa woman with bloodlines connecting her to Fanny Cochrane-Smith.

The works Emma creates are part of her healing and her journey of creation. Emma’s life is busy and designing works no matter how simple, help rebuild a part of her and bring her closer to her past. Emma is able to feel a connection to her ancestors but also build contemporary creations, utilising skills and techniques that have been passed on from Elders and community, especially Aunty Verna Nichols.

Emma’s works feature many natural materials, shells, fibres and kelp and these are things she is most comfortable with. She enjoys the process of gathering and collecting on country as part of the broader process.

She often takes her children to share the knowledge that has been passed on to her. For Emma, this is the beginning of creation. This is also an important part of the work for her as she shares this with her sister and is often a time for them to reflect and support each other.

You can see what Emma is up to and view her artworks via her own website.
